As a correspondent of Portal-Credo.Ru reports, Metropolitan Valentine arrived in the capital the evening before in order to undergo routine treatment for the diabetes from which he had been suffering for more than twenty years. He stayed with the Shtilmark family, who are spiritual children and friends, in the Orekhevo-Borisovo area of Moscow, where he was found deceased the next morning.
No official cause of death has yet been determined. However, it is known that, besides diabetes, Metropolitan Valentine suffered from heart disease: he had undergone several heart operations and had a pacemaker.
